Training Titbits...

Shout out to all the new faces, in particular the lovely Jaqui, who has joined Bec on her Trek from distant lands (The Gold Coast), although the numbers were a bit depressed (State of Orgin smorigin) we still managed to have an awesome sesh... starting with throwing form and building difficulty through the session up to active game time break mark throws. It was awesome to see people really using their whole toolbox of throws once we worked through a series of games with limited options, and seeing the game open up as a result. The improvement... in ability, focus and decsion making, is already evident in those girls that have been coming the whole time! Hopefully next week we can get 14 on the line and play real ultimate... don't forget!!

Focus Point: As promised, the next step in the focus exercises.... you're ok with the sign? Now try it with a moving object!

Highlights: Notty's breaks (they're so pretty), Paiges hammer based ready position (and she is NOt faking), and... the all around INTENSITY and FOCUS - it is so amazing to train with people that commit to what they are doing 100%!! POJ - mmm Tim Tams!!

Gossip Reel: Hot off the press is a dirty little rumour that in little more than two months the inagraul Reckless vs Black Betty game will kick off with a stellar game towards then end of September!!

What is a frisbee tragic?

Hey everyone!!

Did you miss me? wait... dont answer, then i can pretend you all said yes. After the flurry of activity last week, I am sure you have been sitting on the edge of your seats just waiting for the next update!! ... and of course, the results of our extremely important poll... is Piers a frisbee tragic?? After a few days of chronic laziness i have finally got my act together...

Before we move on to the all important results... I have noticed that a few of our lovely ladies have yet to find out for themselves, just what is a frisbee tragic anyway? Here are a few indicators that you can consult to see if someone is on the downward spiral into frisbee tragedy...

- you start buying things just because they say ultimate
- you spend more time playing frisbee than at work/school in a week
- you dream about frisbee
- you believe the ideal form of wall decoration is a frisbee
- more than 50% of your wardrobe is composed of frisbee shirts
- you begin to shun your friends because they make fun of frisbee and thus just cant understand
you any more
- you cant leave your house without a disc
- you eat all your meals out of a frisbee
- you have more cleats than all you other shoes put together

and now.... by popular decision... despite numerous denials in public places...
PIERS TRUTER IS OFFICIALLY A FRISBEE TRAGIC!!

For those of you that have not seen these, you might enjoy the frisbee tradgedies of Australia's last worlds teams (link below)... and if you have any "frisbee tragic" stories this is the place to share them...

On that note, anyone and everyone can post on here and we especially want to hear all about every one of the RECKLESS girls!!! Who's up to profile themselves this week??

Training 17 June 2009

We had 8 ladies at training which meant that I was able to give a little extra one-on-one time with each athlete. We spent quite a bit of time working on the technical aspects of throwing and throwing with a mark. Then we working on cutting skills and finished the session with 5 games of mini. For the record the black team (Jen, Notty, Bec and Rowena) won 3 games and the white team (Blair, Bree, Megs and Courtney) won 2.

Then we had POJ. I love POJ, especially when it has Tim Tams in it. :-)

Bit about me, I want to hear about u!

It's a perfect time to get to know each other. I'm going to do a bit about me, I want to hear from everyone as well! (If I can do it you can).

Name: Notty
Will also answer to: Nots. Will not answer to: Proper name- Kristen and other variations
Brief Description of me: Ultimate Junkie, If there is ultimate on, I'm likely to be there. Go a little weird when I haven't played in a while. Weekends are filled with movies due to living in "newcomen cinema" and lazy bushwalking. Most cursed stomach ever!
Lived in Brisbane area: 2 &1/4 years, moved here for work and Ultimate.

Started ultimate: At university of Newcastle, 2003 I think.
How I play Ultimate: Lazy yet dynamic handler that likes to huck it, and loves zone defence
Like to see on frisbee field: awsome d's. sweet throws. Layouts.
Want to improve: Long forehand and faster, stronger backhand.

Perceived role on team: handler, treasurer, occasional drill Sargent, "Old wise one",
An Ultimate achievement: Its a tie between getting a bronze at beach worlds in Brazil 2007, and making the 2008 worlds mixed team.
Inspired by: Leanne king - she dragged me kicking and screaming to my first nationals and I haven't looked back since.
This colour is good for a team shirt: Hot pink cause no one has it

Training Titbits!

Hey everyone! Well... I made it back in one piece, though barely, and thought I would try get ahead of the game this week! Jen C almost took me out with that elbow of hers and I narrowly avoided breaking Blairs nose with a poorly aimed missile (frisbee). The exams and general calamities meant there were far fewer people this week, but the faithful few turned out to hone their skills. After practicing our ABC's we did some breaking, some stepping and beefed up our FOCUS - and guess what? Focus is something you can practice anywhere... walking between classes? Pick a sign... and stare at it/through it, observing it, but not focusing on anything about it, not the words, not the shape, nothing... just be aware, just observe. This is also known in Yoga as the warriors gaze - and once perfected, with it comes awareness without diversions, a valuable skill in any activity, and especially in frisbee!! Stay tuned for more activities to perfect your warriors gaze. Anyone who didnt show (and for that matter, those who did) - dont forget to practice your throws, focusing on your personal assignments from Piers, the more you throw, the better you will get!! Speaking of Piers, just want to send a big hug and a thankyou for coming and being awesome despite the ridiculous amount of work he had to do today!!

Love from the Reckless Playhouse (just up the hill from the BUB mansion and far more fun!!)
xox

p.s. I promise to try and be more witty and delightful in future!

Highlight:
Bec throwing her much forsaken forehand and improving significantly over the session!
Stephanie.... I mean Courtney's (!!) great hucking vision - keep thrwing those Court!

Introducing Reckless!!

Welcome, officially to Reckless!!

After so much time and effort it is a great pleasure to finally officially be a club!! The first training session was amazing. It was great to see so many girls down there braving the cold snap in the decided-ly un-Queensland-like temperatures to get better about frisbee! Now we just need to learn to throw! But wait!! after learning the alphabet last week i have already seen a bunch of you throwing way better (including me - who knew i could throw my forhand flat!!) Have you all been practicing your ABC's?! How do you all feel about your throwing? Practice makes perfect and we are gonna outthrow every womens team in the country by the time we get to Nationals next year!! High goals i know... but as Abraham Lincoln once said "A man must first dream what can or should be done, and then a way will be found" or something like that!

Well... I best be off to training now.
Love xoxo
stronger, faster, smarter, and we train in your sleep
